Person rescued from building fire - Berowra

Published: 19 Feb 2022 06:42am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have saved a person during a large building fire this morning at Berowra, in Sydney's north.

The blaze broke out in the basement of the commercial building on Turner Road, just before 7am.

Large plumes of smoke bellowed from the three level building, which comprises a gym and shops on the ground level and two levels of residential units.

11 Trucks, along with three specialty appliances, were deployed at the scene.

50 firefighters attacked the blaze as search and rescue crews entered the burning 40x80m building to investigate reports of people trapped.

One resident was found on the second floor of the property and rescued.

That person has been transported to hospital.

The fire started in a storage unit on the basement level of the building.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
