Military Canister on Beach - Shell Cove

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews today have responded to an emergency involving what was first thought to be an old artillery shell, washed up on the beach at Shell Cove, near Shellharbour, on the state's south coast.
After inspecting the object around 10.45am, firefighters determined it was actually a military canister, containing phosphorus, and they immediately set up a 100-metre exclusion zone for safety.
The canister was located about 200 metres from the "Old Loader" dive site.
Australian Defence Force explosives experts also attended to assist authorities at the scene.
The canister was safely detonated around 1.30pm.
