Car & Caravan career into creek - Uralba

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have helped save a person after a car towing a caravan veered off the Pacific Highway and tipped sideways into a creek near Uralba on the state's far north coast.
FRNSW joined the State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance and police at the scene near the Bruxner Highway turn-off around 10 o'clock this morning.
Whilst one occupant managed to get out of the car, another was trapped inside as water began filling the vehicle.
The male was successfully extricated from the car as three tow trucks pulled the caravan out of the water.
Inside the van, authorities found a sheep, a parrot and a dog unharmed.
FRNSW secured the scene with special Hazardous Material equipment to ensure fuel did not leak into Emigrant Creek.
The freed occupant of the car was transported to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) when you are involved in or see a crash can be the difference between life and death.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said a large amount of electrical energy is discharged when lightning strikes a house, tree or car.
Community members are urged to keep up to date with local weather events that may impact their area.
"During a storm, stay indoors where possible to protect yourself, your loved ones and your pets. However, in the event of a fire, get out, stay out and call Triple Zero (000).”
