Major Gas Leak - Parramatta

Published: 14 Feb 2022 08:21am

Fire and Rescue NSW ( FRNSW ) is on scene at a major gas leak at Parramatta in Sydney's west.

Earlier this morning, there were several reports of a strong smell of gas emanating from a building that is currently being demolished in Macquarie Street.

Authorities have since cut off the gas main and fans are being used to ventilate the building.

Firefighters are using specialised equipment to monitor the atmosphere at the incident.

NSW Police have closed the road and set up an exclusion zone for safety.

Operations are continuing.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
