Freight Train Fire - Nana Glen

Published: 07 Feb 2022 01:51am

Firefighters have extinguished a fire on board a freight train at Nana Glen, north-west of Coffs Harbour.

The train's driver saw smoke coming from a second locomotive on the consist, just before 2am.

Australian Railcorp personnel immediately separated the engine from the carriages, loaded with mixed freight.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) and Rural Fire Service crews found the fire in a bank of batteries under the train.

An attempt was made to turn off the locomotive but the electrical system did not respond.

Crews put on breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire in two hours.
