Mill fire - Corowa

Published: 28 Jan 2022 09:31am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a fire and averted a potential catastrophe at a feed mill at Corowa on the New South Wales-Victoria border.

Around 9.30 this morning, two trucks from Corowa Fire Station and a Hazardous Materials tanker from Albury rushed to the Honour Avenue mill where they were faced with a blaze in an electrical motor, powering the plant's conveyor belt, in a grain tunnel between two processing buildings.

The mill activated its emergency plan and 20 employees were evacuated without incident.

Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, adopted a precautionary approach due to the risk of a dust explosion at the site.

It took the crews almost three hours to extinguish the fire and declare the area safe.

Damage was isolated to the conveyor belt.
