Multiple house fires - Claymore

Published: 07 Jan 2022 12:00am

More than 40 firefighters across 15 firetrucks have been hammered with a spate of home fires in close proximity at Claymore in Sydney's west overnight and today.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews tackled two separate homes overnight overwhelmed with smoke and flames on Abraham's Way, only to return this afternoon to battle a third home well alight on Preston's Way.

Crews arrived at the first house fire on Abraham's Way just after midnight to find the top level of a two-storey townhouse well alight with flames issuing from the roof.

Thanks to the quick actions of firefighters, the fire was contained and did not spread to neighboring homes. However, the top floor of the property was severely damaged in the blaze.

Reports of a second large house fire on the same street saw firefighters battle yet another blaze just after 2:00 at Abraham's Way.

Crews worked tirelessly to extinguish and contain the fire yet, sadly the second home was completely destroyed.

Then, today just before 1:00 pm, firefighters were needed again in Claymore to battle another two-storey townhouse in the adjoining street, Prestons Way.

Crews battled the third fire and were able to save the home from complete destruction.

Fire Investigation and Research Unit (FIRU) are currently on scene with Xando, the Accelerant Detection Canine along with NSW Police investigating the cause of these fires.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
