Large restaurant fire - Punchbowl

Published: 01 Jan 2022 09:36am

40 firefighters have battled a large fire in a restaurant this morning at Punchbowl, in Sydney's south-west.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews arrived at the Punchbowl Road address just after 9.30am and quickly called for additional resources.

The fire took hold in the roof of the restaurant.

Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, entered the building through thick, black smoke and found the air conditioning ducts well alight.

13 fire crews were on scene and brought the blaze under control, preventing the flames from spreading to adjoining shops.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for an emergency can be the difference between life and death.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
