Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have fought a large garage fire that threatened neighbouring homes this morning at Russell Lea in Sydney's inner west.

The alarm was raised around 5am when the blaze broke out at the Undine Street address.

Fire trucks arrived and found the garage alight and at least one car inside engulfed in flames.

Authorities cut power and gas supplies to the property and all occupants of the home were accounted for.

Additional firefighters were brought in to suppress the flames which were threatening to spread to the home and adjacent houses.

Mopping up operations are now underway.
