Paraglider Rescue - Stanwell Tops

Published: 13 Dec 2021 12:32pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have helped save a paraglider who crashed into a tree this afternoon at Stanwell Tops, south of Sydney.

FRNSW personnel joined NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and State Emergency Service crews to reach the 30-year-old man, who veered off course from the nearby paragliding launch pad around 12.30pm.

The paraglider found himself stuck in the tree, around 25 metres off the ground, just west of Lawrence Hargrave Drive.

The man's chute was dangerously caught on an outlying branch.

The rescue experts combined resources to establish two support lines on the tree and attach a winch, allowing the man to cut himself free from his tangled parachute and slowly lower himself to the ground, unharmed.
