Flood Rescue - Swift Water Rescue - Gunnedah

Fire and Rescue (NSW) crews have helped save a mother and teenage son from rising floodwaters at Gunnedah in the state's north east.
Around 7pm last night (Saturday 27 November), the State Emergency Service received a call from a concerned resident, who was trapped with her 14-year-old son by the floodwaters on Tamworth Road.
With night fall rapidly approaching, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) was called in to assist the SES and a team prepared itself for a two-and-a-half kilometre trek through dark floodwaters and unfamiliar terrain.
The swift water rescue experts encountered fast flowing water with depths ranging from ankle to waist deep.
Upon its arrival, the firefighter rescue team encouraged the mother and son to gather essential items.
The pair was then safely transported by inflatable boat to higher ground and waiting family members.
This is a timely reminder to never take risks with flood waters, never cross or enter rising, moving or flooded waters or roads and to call Triple Zero (000) if you find yourself in danger.
