Unit Fire - Darlinghurst

Fire and Rescue (FRNSW) battled a unit fire in Darlinghurst, Sydney overnight.

The residential unit block was well alight with smoke issuing when crews arrived at Taggarts Lane just before 11:00 PM.

More than 15 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze which destroyed two ground-level apartments within the unit block.

Thankfully all occupants self-evacuated and there were no injuries reported.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

The leading cause of house fires in NSW is leaving cooking unattended.

FRNSW Superintendent Scott Dodson said it was important the community remembered to keep looking when cooking.

"If your cooking catches fire never use water to put out a fat or oil fire, turn off the stove if it is safe to do so and call Triple Zero (000)."
