House Fire - Cambridge Park

Published: 06 Aug 2021 03:40am

Thanks to a working smoke alarm, a man has escaped with his life after Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) were called to a house fire on Sandringham Avenue, Cambridge Park overnight.

FRNSW arrived on scene to find a rear granny flat alight and one occupant suffering burns waiting outside the property.

Firefighters fast actions contained the blaze to the granny flat.

NSW Ambulance treated the occupant before transporting to hospital with non life threatening burns.

NSW Police were also in attendance.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder to have at least one working smoke alarm installed on every level of your home, it is the law.

The risk of a fatality in the home is halved if there is a working smoke alarm. Yet, 50 percent of residential home fires attended by FRNSW do not have a working smoke alarm.

“A fire can take hold in just three minutes, so it is vital to have working smoke alarms in your home and to test them regularly”, he said.
