Battery Fire - Villawood

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) evacuated 100 people from a recycling centre following a lithium battery fire at Monier Square, Villawood today.

Firefighters arrived on scene to discover a large number of lithium batteries had caught alight outside of the building.

HAZMAT crews extinguished the fire with foam and sand and contained any chemicals shed from the batteries.

Three people were transported to hospital after being exposed to the fumes from the fire.

FRNSW will investigate the cause of the fire.
