Kitchen Fire - East Killara

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has warned residents to be mindful of fire danger while cooking after a kitchen fire at a home in Jindalee Place, East Killara this afternoon.
FRNSW arrived at the home to find a large amount of smoke coming from inside. After confirming all residents were safely evacuated, firefighters extinguished a small fire in the kitchen using an extinguisher.
It was determined that the fire was caused by hot cooking oil.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said the leading cause of house fires in NSW is leaving cooking unattended and it was important the community remembered to keep looking when cooking.
"If your cooking catches fire, never use water to put out a fat or oil fire, turn off the stove if it is safe to do so and call Triple Zero (000)."
