House Fire - West Kempsey

Published: 22 May 2021 09:52am

Just before 10:00am over 20 Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Firefighters responded to numerous triple zero calls for an unoccupied house fire on George Hardiman Avenue, West Kempsey.

Upon arrival smoke and flames were coming through the partially collapsed roof. Crews got to work to ensure no-one was inside and protect the neighbouring houses.

Asbestos was present in the fire so FRNSW Hazmat were responded to make the site safe and decontaminate the area.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said FRNSW is attending numerous house fires and that it was a timely reminder for residents to develop their fire escape plan.

"Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency," he said.
