Animal Rescue - Shadforth

In a large multi-agency operation, Fire and Rescue NSW, alongside NSW Rural Fire Service have safely removed two calves who became stuck in a well on a property located on Mitchell Highway, Shadforth, near Orange in Central West NSW.
Upon arrival on the property, FRNSW found two nine-month-old calves, weighing approximately 300kg each trapped in a well around two meters deep.
In a combined effort using specialist rescue equipment FRNSW assisted by NSW Rural Fire Service and the property owner successfully rescued the calves from the well without serious injuries.
The well on the property is a historical remnant of the Cobb and Co trail and was constructed in approximately 1857 to allow horses to have a guaranteed water supply.
