Caravan Fire - Bobs Farm

Published: 12 May 2021 02:17am

A dozen Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters have managed to extinguish a large fire that broke out inside a caravan on Fenninghams Island Road, Bobs Farm near Port Stephens just after 2am this morning.

Upon arrival, FRNSW firefighters found a caravan well alight and worked for over an hour to prevent the fire from spreading across the caravan park.

No one was injured during the blaze however a number of nearby caravans suffered heat and smoke damage.

Thankfully the caravan had a working smoke alarm which prompted neighbours to call Triple Zero (000)

Crews from the NSW Rural Fire Service were also on scene.

Supt Scott Dodson said this was a timely reminder of the importance of having a working smoke alarm.

"Only working smoke alarms save lives, it is important smoke alarms are checked often and replaced every 10 years and batteries replaced when required.

"The risk of a fatality in a house fire is halved if the home has a working smoke alarm." he said.
