Just after 11am this morning, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters from Walgett Fire Station responded to reports of a house fire on George Sands Way, Walgett.

On arrival, crews found a two storey home well alight, with smoke and flames issuing from the roof and a number of gas bottles inside the home.

FRNSW firefighters alongside the Rural Fire Service worked for more than two hours to contain the fire and protect the fire from spreading, however, the home was severely damaged.

An exclusion zone has been set up around the home due to the threat of structural collapse from the second storey.

No persons were injured and investigations into the cause are continuing.
