More than 30 Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters have managed to extinguish a fire that broke out at a unit block on Railway Crescent, Jannali just after 5am this morning.

Crews arrived on scene following numerous calls to Triple Zero (000) reporting smoke coming from the top level of a three-storey unit block.

Approximately 20 people were evacuated from the building, with one occupant being treated on scene by NSW Ambulance.

Firefighters battled the blaze for a number of hours, after it had spread across multiple units and into the roof of the building.

Fire Investigators are currently on scene working to determine the cause of the fire.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for an emergency can be the difference between life and death.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
