Structure Fire - Gymea Bay

Just after 4am this morning, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews responded to multiple Triple Zero (000) calls to a house fire in Valley Way, Gymea Bay.
When crews arrived, they found a house well alight, and a 57 year old woman and her dog who had evacuated from the premises. The lady was suffering from smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene, before being transported to hospital by NSW Ambulance for observation.
Over twenty firefighters from nearby FRNSW stations battled the intense blaze for almost two hours, with the roof, floors and walls collapsing. All firefighting operations were completed just before 6am.
Despite various other weather related emergencies happening across the state of NSW at the moment, Superintendent Scott Dodson said it was a timely reminder for residents to remain vigilant around the topic of home fire safety, and to develop their home fire escape plan.
"Now is just as good a time as any for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency" he said.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the blaze are ongoing.
