Dryer Fire - Chippendale

Fire and Rescue NSW Firefighters have managed to extinguish a fire that broke out at an apartment on Buckland Street, Chippendale just before 3:30pm this afternoon.

Following numerous Triple Zero (000) calls, firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke issuing from the two storey apartment with two occupants and their dog taking refuge on the balcony.

Crews were able to escort the occupants and their dog safely out of the apartment where they were treated on scene by NSW Ambulance.

The fire is believed to have started due to an issue inside the dryer. This incident is a timely reminder for residents to follow the ensure their dryers are correctly maintained and follow the below step

1. Clean your lint filter before or after each use
2. Ensure there is adequate air flow around your dryer
3. Never leave the dryer operating when you’re not home
