House Fire - Ashfield

A dozen Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters are currently working to extinguish at fire that broke out at a home on Frederick Street, Ashfield just before 2.30pm this afternoon.

Numerous Triple Zero (000) callers reported large plumes of smoke issuing from the single level home.

Frederick Street is closed as firefighting operations continue and traffic in the area is heavily affected. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

One female resident was home at the time of the blaze, however has managed to safely evacuate.

This is a timely reminder for all NSW residents to develop and practice their fire escape plan:
- Identify an escape route and ensure all residents knows how to get out
- Ensure all exit points are clear and free from hazards
- Decide on a meeting place
- Once you get out, stay out. Never go back inside a burning building.
