House Fire - Griffith

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) have saved a valuable Olympic torch from destruction during a fire that completely destroyed a home in McCudden Street, Griffith this morning.

Crews from Griffith, Yenda and Leeton were called to the address at 10.53am following numerous Triple Zero (000) calls to find the home well alight.

There were fears that someone was inside the property at the time of the fire but the occupant's family arrived on scene and informed firefighters no one was home.

The family also advised firefighters that an Olympic torch was inside the house and luckily the attending crews were able to safely retrieve the torch before the house was destroyed.

Firefighters also rescued a small dog in the rear yard of the house from injury.
