Published: 10 Jan 2021 01:22am

Just before 1.30am Sunday 10 January, Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Tweed Heads and Kingscliff responded to reports of a car and truck crash on the M1 motorway at Chinderah.

On arrival crews found a four wheel drive had collided with a petrol tanker and rolled onto its side, passengers were freed and treated on scene with one transported by ambulance for further assessment.

Luckily there were no leaks to the tanker only minor damage with a blown tyre. The four wheel drive was righted by tow contractors and oil spill rendered safe by firefighters.

Southbound lanes of the motorway were closed for over an hour with diversions put in place until the scene was cleared.

NSW Police and Volunteer Rescue Association also in attendance.
