Explosion - Rushcutters Bay

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) attended a unit in Rushcutters Bay today following an explosion that is believed to have been caused by an insect bomb.
FRNSW crews from Darlinghurst and City of Sydney Fire Stations attended the unit in Waratah Street after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported an explosion in the kitchen at 11.42am.
Acting Superintendent Scott Dodson said it is important to follow safety instructions on insect bombs to avoid such incidents occurring.
"We had an incident earlier this year where a family were lucky to be alive after their house was destroyed from using a large number of insect bombs at the same time against safety recommendations," he said.
"Before using these bombs it is important to read all safety instructions on the label very carefully and ensure all possible ignition sources, such as pilot lights on appliances, are switched off."
