Building Fire - Smithfield

Just before 12.00pm, Fire and Rescue NSW responded to a commercial building on Herbert Place, Smithfield after receiving reports of a building fire.

Multiple crews from across Sydneys West arrived shortly after and confirmed a fire in an industrial compactor. Through further investigation it was discovered that the fire had spread through approximately 100 meters of ducting between two factory units.

More than thirty firefighters worked through intense heat to contain the blaze which took three hours to extinguish.

Approximately 180 staff across both factories were evacuated until the incident was rendered safe.

NSW Police and NSW Ambulance also attended the scene, although no injuries were reported.
