Just before 2am, Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Bankstown, Revesby and Lakemba responded to a fire in a home at Carnation Avenue, Bankstown.

Crews arrived to find a fire in the laundry at the rear of the home and quickly extinguished it with hoselines saving the rest of the property.

Two adults and two children managed to self evacuate thanks to the help of neighbours and were assessed on scene by NSW Ambulance.

Some minor fire and water damage occurred in the laundry area of the home, with firefighters saving the rest of the property from any spread.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said FRNSW is attending numerous house fires and that it was a timely reminder for residents to develop their fire escape plan.

"Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency," he said.
