Hazmat Incident - Greenacre

At approximately 12:30pm Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to a rail yard on Wentworth Street, Greenacre, after receiving reports of a chemical spill.

Crews from Bankstown Fire Station and Hazardous Materials specialists from Chester Hill Fire Station arrived on scene to find a goods train carrying chemicals in eight containers, with two of the containers leaking a reactive substance.

NSW Police were in attendance as road closures and evacuations were made and FRNSW crews remained on site for several hours to clean up the area before now rendering it safe.

The rail yard has reopened and trains have now resumed operation.
