KFC Bucket Destroyed, Trees and Powerlines Down - Western Sydney

Published: 25 Sep 2020 05:45pm

Since about 4pm yesterday Fire and Rescue NSW has received many calls due to wind and storm related emergencies, including trees and powerlines down across the Sydney basin.

These calls also included reports of a KFC bucket (large sign) breaking up at the KFC in Hoxton Park.

Firefighters found the bucket was disintegrating in the wind and large sharp panels were at risk of falling and blowing onto the road and footpath.

A fire engine with a large ladder was called from St Andrews Fire Station and crews worked in difficult conditions to make the scene safe.

Elsewhere, Fire and Rescue NSW crews attended numerous other storm and wind related calls, including a large tree down on a car on Campbelltown Road in Bardia. The occupant suffered minor injuries and crews worked to clear the roadway (see link for more photos).

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said “Triple Zero (000) should always be called in an emergency, all non-emergency storm related requests for assistance should be placed with the NSW State Emergency Service by calling 132 500”.
