Car crashes over cliff - Bar Beach

Just before 10.30am this morning emergency services were called to Bar Beach, near Newcastle where a car had crashed off a twenty metre cliff and onto the beach below.

Fire and Rescue NSW responded to the scene following reports a female driver had driven the vehicle through a car park and landed onto the sand. A woman and infant child were struck by the car when it landed on the beach.

Firefighters from Newcastle and Lambton Fire Stations assisted NSW Police and NSW Ambulance in removing the driver and transporting them up the beach, along with the injured woman and infant.

All three were treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to hospital for further treatment.

Firefighters have secured the vehicle to nearby rocks and are awaiting assistance from specialist recovery vehicles to remove it from the area.

NSW Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area as operations continue.
