Gas Leak - Emerton

Published: 21 Sep 2020 11:47am

Just before 12pm, Fire and Rescue NSW crews from across Western Sydney were alerted to a gas leak in a shopping centre on Jersey Road, Emerton after a Triple Zero (000) call reported the incident.

Crews arrived to find a gas metre had been ripped out of the ground during a site demolition.

Firefighters and NSW Police evacuated 150 people from the site surrounding area while they waited for the gas to be isolated.

An exclusion zone was set up from Bunting Street to Popondetta and Jersey Roads, including Emerton Village Shopping Centre.

Crews have rendered the area safe with gas monitoring and the all clear was given from the hazardous materials specialist crew from Fire Station St Marys, allowing evacuees back into the area.

No Injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.
