Kitchen Fire - Inverell

Fire and Rescue NSW were alerted by a concerned neighbour who rang Triple Zero (000) after hearing a smoke alarm operating in the house next door.
Inverell Fire Station arrived at residence on Evans Street and began investigating a smell of smoke.
Upon making entry the smoke filled home, crews discovered a fire on the stove. Working quickly to extinguish the blaze, firefighters performed search to ensure no one was at home.
Firefighters ventilated the home of smoke and rendered the area safe for the occupants to return.
NSW Police and NSW Ambulance were also in attendance, however no injuries were sustained as a result of this fire.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said the leading cause of house fires in NSW is leaving cooking unattended and it was important the community remembered to keep looking when cooking.
"If your cooking catches fire, never use water to put out a fat or oil fire, turn off the stove if it is safe to do so and call Triple Zero (000)."
