Hoverboard Causes House Fire - Mount Druitt

Published: 04 Aug 2020 08:57am

Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Ropes Crossing and St Marys Fire Stations were called to a home on Methven Street, Mt Druitt after a Triple Zero (000) call reported smoke billowing from the home's garage.

Occupants were directed to evacuate the house and crews arrived to find the garage well alight.

Crews worked quickly to control the blaze, and the fire was contained to the garage, which was completely destroyed.

Fire Investigators determined the cause of the fire was a hoverboard on charge that caught fire.

A male was treated at the scene and transported to hospital by NSW Ambulance.

This incident serves as a reminder to ensure hoverboards comply with safety standards outlined by the ACCC.

Defective hoverboards have been the cause of a number of house fires. You can find more information here.
