Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Guildford, Merrylands, Chester Hill and Yennora are responding to a house fire on Station Street, Guildford.

Crews arrived on scene just before 2pm and extinguished the flames in less than ten minutes, managing to stop the fire spreading into other areas of the property.

Two people were inside the property at the time. A male in his early 20's is being treated for smoke inhalation while the other individual is reportedly uninjured.

Reports suggest that the fire started in the kitchen.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said the leading cause of house fires in NSW is leaving cooking unattended and it was important the community remembered to keep looking when cooking.

"If your cooking catches fire, never use water to put out a fat or oil fire, turn off the stove if it is safe to do so and call Triple Zero (000)."
