Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Willoughby and Neutral Bay are currently responding to a house fire in Carter Street, Cammeray.

There are reports of visible smoke and an alarm ringing from inside the premises.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire with minimal damage to the home. Initial investigations suggest the fire had been caused by unattended foodstuffs left on the stove.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said the leading cause of house fires in NSW is leaving cooking unattended and it was important the community remembered to keep looking when cooking.

"If your cooking catches fire, never use water to put out a fat or oil fire, turn off the stove if it is safe to do so and call Triple Zero (000)."
