Burns from cooking fire - Miller

Published: 05 Jun 2020 12:00pm

Two people were treated and transported to hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns following a cooking-fat fire in a cafeteria in Miller just after lunch today.

Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters managed to quickly extinguish the fire, however we are reminding the community that water must not be used to extinguish a cooking fat fire.

If you experience a fire whilst cooking kitchen please follow the below steps.
1. Turn off the stove (if safe to do so) and use the lid to cover the flame.
2. Never use water to put out a fat or oil fire.
3. Use a fire extinguisher or fire blanket in the first few seconds of ignition if you are confident.
4. Leave the kitchen, close the door and call Triple Zero '000'.
