NSW welcomes twelve new firefighters

Twelve new firefighters were today welcomed into the ranks of Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW), having proven their abilities over several months of intense training.
The state’s newest firefighting recruits, who include a professional track cyclist, competitive netballer, a former marine engineer, army firefighter and paramedic, graduated in a ceremony at the FRNSW State Training College in Alexandria.
Minister for Emergency Services, Troy Grant congratulated the recruits, acknowledging their skills and dedication.
“These 12 firefighters are joining one of the most professional, skilled and advanced firefighting services in the world,” he said.
“Over the course of their training, they have proven themselves able to meet the many challenges of the job, from firefighting and road‑crash rescue, to advanced first aid, fire science and hazardous materials response.
“This is vital and sometimes challenging work, and I thank these recruits for putting up their hands to protect communities across NSW.”
FRNSW Commissioner Paul Baxter said the graduates would soon put their training into action, joining crews at fire stations across greater Sydney.
“I know that this graduating class will uphold the high standards of integrity, courage and professionalism expected of a FRNSW firefighter, and it is a pleasure to welcome these firefighters to our full-time ranks,” he said.
The following recruits will take up positions in the Sydney greater metropolitan area from Friday 27 April:
