NSW welcomes 24 new firefighters

Twenty-four new firefighters were today welcomed into Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) at a ceremony at the State Training College in Alexandria.
Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant congratulated the recruits on successfully completing the training course and joining one of the most trusted emergency services in the country.
“Our newest firefighting recruits, who include a former professional soccer player, an iron woman, a news photographer, a former competitive bodybuilder and a Bondi lifeguard, have proven their abilities over 13 weeks of intense training,” Mr Grant said.
“These firefighters are joining one of the most professional, skilled and advanced firefighting services in the world.”
“The tasks our firefighters perform on a daily basis are as complex as they are varied. FRNSW recruit firefighters bring wide-ranging skills and life experiences to help meet these diverse challenges.
“I thank these recruits for putting up their hands to protect communities across NSW.”
FRNSW Commissioner Paul Baxter said the graduates would soon put their training into action, joining crews at fire stations across greater Sydney.
“I know that this graduating class will uphold the high standards of integrity, courage and professionalism expected of a FRNSW firefighter, and it is a pleasure to welcome these firefighters to our full-time ranks,” Commissioner Baxter said.

Since 2011, 650 permanent firefighters in total have joined FRNSW’s ranks.
