New fire station officially opens at Gulgong

Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant and Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Commissioner Paul Baxter QSO today officially opened the new Gulgong Fire Station.

The $920,000 facility in Medley Street replaces the old station, which served the people of Gulgong and surrounding communities for more than 80 years.

Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant said the new station was an investment in community safety in Gulgong.

“This is the third fire station I’ve opened in regional NSW since January, and the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has invested around $3 million in these state-of-the-art facilities,” Mr Grant said.

“These fire stations represent the sense of civic duty that is so strong in towns like Gulgong, and it fills me with pride to see so many new facilities up and running, working to keep our communities safe.

“We are committed to providing our firefighters with the best possible equipment and amenities so they can get on with the job they do best - saving lives and property.

“This new station features a double fire engine bay and modern training and recovery facilities to ensure local firefighters are ready to respond to fires, accidents, chemical spills and other emergencies.”

Designed to meet the changing needs of firefighters, the new station also includes separate male/female amenities, improved storage capacity for firefighting equipment, and an external yard for undertaking drills.

FRNSW Commissioner Paul Baxter QSO said the station’s modern facilities would boost firefighters’ ability to protect the local community and help in the recruitment of new retained (or on-call) firefighters.

“The greatly improved working environment provides firefighters with the facilities they need to continue to deliver the best service possible well into the future,” he said.

“It is a purpose-built base to support our professional, scientific approach to firefighting.”

Construction of the new Gulgong Fire Station was completed in July 2017.
