Major upgrade for Albion Park Fire Station

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Stuart Ayres, Member for Kiama Gareth Ward and Fire & Rescue NSW Acting Commissioner Jim Hamilton today celebrated the completion of the new $2.5 million Albion Park Fire Station.
“The NSW Government is committed to providing our firefighters with the best possible equipment and amenities so they can get on with the job they do best,” Mr Ayres said.
“It was my great pleasure to be at Albion Park today to celebrate this major investment in firefighting resources for the Illawarra community.”
Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has welcomed the investment for the region.
“With the population and significant infrastructure growth in the Illawarra area, and the risks – structural fires, bush fires, major road and rail transport routes – it’s important to have this new and improved resource,” Mr Ward said.
“It will provide a much-needed boost to firefighters to continue their work in keeping our community safe and protected from fires and other emergencies.”
Acting Commissioner Jim Hamilton said the new station was designed to accommodate the 16 permanent firefighters who have joined the 14 retained (on-call) firefighters at the station.
“There’s a larger double engine bay to house two fire trucks, including a specialist rescue fire engine that was previously stationed at Shellharbour,” Acting Commissioner Hamilton said.
“There’s also better staff accommodation, including locker rooms, training and office facilities, and improved equipment storage for uniforms and breathing apparatus.”
“The new station has been designed to accommodate permanent and retained firefighters to service the future firefighting and response needs of the region,” Acting Commissioner Hamilton concluded.
