Fire & Rescue NSW Commissioner Greg Mullins and Kevin Anderson MP, the Member for Tamworth, today celebrated the unveiling of the new $852,000 Barraba Fire Station.

"The NSW Government is committed to providing our firefighters with the best possible equipment and amenities so they can get on with the job they do best," Commissioner Mullins said.

"In recent months we have seen firefighters across the state, in the bush and in the towns, helping to defend their local communities from fires.

"It was my great pleasure to be at Barraba today to celebrate this major investment in fire fighting resources."

Commissioner Mullins said the new station on Henry St was more modern and would accommodate firefighters' needs well into the future.

"The improved facilities will provide a bigger and better base for the nine firefighters who protect Barraba and the surrounding area from fires, accidents, chemical spills and other emergencies," he said.

"It will boost their ability to continue their work in keeping our community safe and protected from fires and other emergencies."

Commissioner Mullins said the new station included a double engine bay and new staff accommodation.

"There’s a new kitchen and watch room facilities, and specially-designed equipment storage areas."
