Tumut Firefighter Championships a success

Fire and rescue officers from across NSW battled it out in front of scores of spectators at the Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Firefighter Regional Championships at Tumut over the weekend.
Eleven teams, including one from the Rural Fire Service (RFS), competed in 11 events over the weekend which saw the Berry Brigade claim the regional championship title, narrowly defeating reigning 2012 state champions, Kelso.
Commissioner Greg Mullins, who officially opened the championships on Saturday, said the weekend was a terrific opportunity to meet firefighters from across the state.
“Although the team numbers were below that expected, the competition, intensity and camaraderie was of the usual high standard.” Commissioner Mullins said.
“Congratulations must go to the regional champions, Berry. The final result was not determined until the last event and crucial points for the fastest time and the least number of penalty points determined the placings.
“Tumut Captain Michael Ivill, Deputy Captain Dion Manning and their crew should also be proud of conducting such a successful first-round competition for this year’s championships. Special thanks also to Tumut Shire Council and local sporting groups for their support.
