Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Superintendent Philip Lindsay has been officially appointed as the new Zone Commander for Sydney’s South West based at St Andrews Fire Station.

Fire & Rescue Commissioner Greg Mullins, who announced the new appointment, said Superintendent Lindsay brings significant experience, skills and knowledge to the job which oversees all operations in the South West of Sydney, responsible for 12 stations and 280 firefighters.

“Superintendent Lindsay commenced his career as a firefighter in 1985 and in 1991 was transferred to Liverpool Fire Station where he rose through the ranks to be promoted to Station Officer in 2002,” said Commissioner Mullins.

“In 2005 he was promoted to the rank of Inspector and assigned to the south western suburbs as a Duty Commander for several years before being transferred to the State Training College at Alexandria.

“In 2010 Superintendent Lindsay was promoted to his current rank and worked in the Education and Training Directorate as the Manager of Technical Training, where he was responsible for providing firefighters across NSW with core firefighting, rescue and hazardous materials handling skills.

“I congratulate Superintendent Lindsay on his new appointment and I wish him every success. His experience in serving the South West community for 18 of his 27 year career makes him the ideal person for this important role.

“Superintendent Lindsay replaces Superintendent Chris Shapter who I would like to thank for his exemplary service as the previous Zone Commander,” Commissioner Mullins said.
