Hazard reduction at Woolwich today

Firefighters from Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) will assist Hunters Hill Council officers with a hazard reduction operation at Kellys Bush, Nelson Parade, Woolwich today <Tuesday 11 September > from 11am.
FRNSW Zone Commander for the Northern Suburbs and Northern Beaches, Superintendent Kel McNamara, said the 1ha hazard reduction burn would involve four fire engines.
“FRNSW is undertaking this hazard reduction as part of a series of controlled burns being conducted, in conjunction with local government authorities, the Rural Fire Service and the National Parks and Wildlife Service, in preparation for the bushfire season,” Superintendent McNamara said.
“It is likely that the burn will generate a lot of smoke. Residents in the area should not be alarmed and should only call Triple Zero in the event of an emergency.”
People living near Kellys Bush, especially those with health issues, should take precautions such as closing doors and windows and staying indoors.
FRNSW firefighters are also assisting other local councils in a number of other minor hazard reduction burns in the Sydney basin today. These include:
• A 0.6ha hazard reduction burn at Forty Baskets Beach from 9.30am.
• A 0.5ha hazard reduction burn at McKay Reserve at Palm Beach from 9.30am.
