Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Commissioner Greg Mullins today announced the appointment of Chief Superintendent Rob McNeil to the rank of Assistant Commissioner.

Commissioner Mullins said that Assistant Commissioner McNeil brought significant skills, experience and knowledge to the key role of Director Regional Operations, which is responsible for overseeing and supporting the work of firefighters in towns throughout regional NSW.

“Assistant Commissioner McNeil has worked in many different areas, including working with NSW Police in counter terrorism, hazardous materials response, education and training, and more recently in the vital community safety area. Last year he was the leader of Australia’s Search & Rescue Task Force which went to Japan to assist following the devastating earthquake and tsunami,” he said.

“My congratulations to Assistant Commissioner McNeil on his appointment and I wish him every success in this demanding role,” Commissioner Mullins said.

Assistant Commissioner McNeil said he was looking forward to working with regional firefighters and other agencies such as the Police, Ambulance, Rural Fire Service and SES to ensure the safety of regional communities in NSW.

“The Regional Operations role is challenging and rewarding, and I’m looking forward to meeting old and new friends as I travel through the state,” Assistant Commissioner McNeil said.
