Firefighters respond to factory fire - Wetherill Park

Published: 27th July 2012

Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters today responded to a fire at a whitegoods and electrical storage warehouse at Hallstrom Place, Wetherill Park.

The Triple Zero (‘000’) call was received from a security guard at 3:30am and firefighters from Smithfield Fire Station were on scene within 10 minutes. When firefighters arrived they found a number of wooden pallets, a truck and materials at the front of the building well alight. This hampered firefighters’ efforts to gain access to the building. Once firefighters gained entry, they found that the interior of the warehouse was engulfed with flames and the fire was threatening nearby factories.

More than 75 firefighters responded to the fire and it took them several hours to bring it under control.

No one was in the factory at the time of the blaze. One Fire & Rescue NSW firefighter was transported to hospital as a precaution after suffering chest pains. There were no other injuries.

The contents of the factory have been destroyed by the fire and the building has severe heat, smoke and water damage.

Newtown Rd and Hallstrom Place remain closed to traffic while crews remain at the scene to make the building safe before fire investigators can determine the cause.
