Blue Mountains farewells two long serving Firefighters

Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) and communities across the Blue Mountains have farewelled two long-serving firefighters this month.
Superintendent Tony Grant, Zone Commander for the Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury areas, retired on 6 July after 37 years as a Firefighter, and Captain Keith Ferguson from Springwood retired on Friday July 13 after a career spanning more than 50 years.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Michael Gallacher congratulated both fire officers of their long and distinguished careers.
"It is truly amazing to hear about people like Superintendent Grant and Captain Ferguson, who have dedicated their lives to protecting and helping the community.
"I congratulate both men on their careers and their commitment to FRNSW and the people of NSW. I wish them all the best for their futures."
Superintendent Grant joined FRNSW, then NSW Fire Brigades, in 1976, and served at fire stations across NSW, before being appointed as the Zone Commander for the Blue Mountains. He has been awarded both the National Medal with two clasps and the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal with two clasps.
Captain Ferguson joined the NSW Fire Brigades in June 1957 and was appointed Captain of Springwood Fire Brigade in October 1990. He served during the major bushfire emergencies in 1957, 1968, 1977, 1994, 2001 and 2005 and during his service received the National Medal and 3 clasps, the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and 4 clasps, and also the prestigious Australian Fire Service Medal in January 2007.
FRNSW Commissioner Greg Mullins said both Superintendent Grant and Captain Ferguson had been outstanding members of FRNSW.
"Both of these officers are a credit to the organisation and the communities they have served, and I thank them for the commitment, professionalism and dedication they have displayed throughout their careers.
"It is always sad to farewell people, but Superintendent Grant and Captain Ferguson will always remain valued members of the FRNSW family."
