Major upgrade for Gloucester Fire Station

The newly refurbished Gloucester Fire Station has been officially unveiled today.
Fire and Rescue NSW Commissioner Greg Mullins, State Member for the Upper Hunter, George Souris, Gloucester Shire Council Mayor Geoff Slack and local firefighters today celebrated the completion of the project.
“The NSW Government is committed to providing our firefighters with the best possible equipment and amenities so that they can get on with the job they do best,” Minister Gallacher said.
“The upgrade to Gloucester Fire Station is a $702,000 investment that includes facilities that are 65 per cent larger, as well as an extra engine bay.
“The improved facilities will provide a bigger and better base for the 9 on-call firefighters that service the Gloucester community,” Minister Gallacher concluded.
The extensions used low-maintenance materials and much of the existing structure was re-used to minimise building costs and the impact on the environment.
Commissioner Mullins said the upgrade includes a new training area and meal room, a renovated operations room and office area, and a new shower and toilet area – including disabled facilities for visitors.
“The station also incorporates environmentally friendly rainwater tanks, as well as new storage space for firefighters’ personal protective equipment,” Commissioner Mullins said.
State Member for the Upper Hunter, George Souris, said Gloucester Fire Station provides a vital service to the local community.
“Last financial year the fire station responded to 47 fire and emergency incidents and undertook 77 community safety, education and engagement activities,” Mr Souris said.
“This enhancement of their facilities will boost their ability to continue their work in keeping our community safe and protected from fires and other emergencies.”
