Shire Community Fire Unit members' dedication recognised

Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Metropolitan South Area Commander, Chief Superintendent Gerry Byrne, recently presented Long Service and Good Conduct Medals to 63 Community Fire Unit (CFU) members from the Sutherland Shire.
Chief Superintendent Byrne said long service medals were awarded to fire and rescue officers, support staff and Community Fire Unit members who had served with FRNSW for 10 years.
"The FRNSW Long Service and Good Conduct Medal recognises diligent long service and good conduct by FRNSW members,” he said.
“This is the first time FRNSW Community Fire Unit members in the region have been presented with the medals and we congratulate all the recipients.”
FRNSW’s Community Fire Unit program trains and equips residents in bushfire-prone urban areas to reduce their bushfire risk by preparing their homes and neighbourhoods.
FRNSW Commissioner Greg Mullins said: “These medals acknowledge the commitment and dedication of frontline fire officers, CFU members and support staff who reinforce FRNSW’s proud traditions of service, courage and reliability.”
The medal presentation ceremony was held at Sutherland United Services Club last Thursday night and was attended by FRNSW Sutherland Shire Zone Commander Brian Johnson, senior officers and medal recipients’ family and friends.
